Freedom fighter Nadar Singh and Late stand in front of his name on the monument.
Fatehabad: The family of the only 100-year-old living freedom fighter from Hijrawan Kalan, a village adjacent to the city, is ashamed today. The reason is the monument erected by the administration in the village. Look at the extent of negligence: Though freedom fighter Nadar Singh was still alive, he was found dead and his name was written on the memorial late. This not only angered the freedom fighter and his family members but the villagers also expressed surprise over it. Nadar Singh’s family members called it an insult to the freedom fighter and said they would have to face the consequences of the government’s mistake. So much so that more and more people came to his house to express their condolences. As this matter became more important, the officials realized their mistake, following which the word “late” was deleted from Nadar Singh’s name on the monument.
According to the information received, 100-year-old Nadar Singh, a resident of Hijrawan Kalan village, is still completely healthy. A monument was erected by the village administration on Independence Day. On this monument, the name of Nadar Singh of the village is written ‘Late’. When Nadar Singh and his family members came to know about this, they became angry. Afterwards, Nadar Singh himself went to the memorial and testified that he was alive. Former member Jangir Singh, son of Nadar Singh, says he will now be deprived of pension and other benefits because he wrote ‘Late’ before his father’s name. To correct this mistake, they sent letters to various places. He has also informed the Sainik board that his father is alive. The district administration was also informed.
Apart from this, the Gram Panchayat was also informed about this several times but no action was taken. Now people come to his home to offer their condolences after reading the heavenly words on the monument, which puts him to shame. He said the government had insulted his father. Talking about the matter, Village Sarpanch representative Karan Singh said that this memorial in the village was not constructed by the Panchayat but as part of the management plan. When asked about the freedom fighter, he gave his name but when the board was ready, he was listed as late. When Nadar Singh’s family later pointed this out, the word “delayed” was removed.
