Rewari. As October 2 approaches, the city council, organizations and leaders have started celebrating Swachhta Pakhwada. For a fortnight, you will see all these people making clean places shine with brooms in hand, but the reality is that in nine years neither people have become aware of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan nor have officials cared about it . The city’s cleanliness and garbage collection system has completely deteriorated. In addition to the garbage that is spread everywhere on the streets, the garbage from the landfill is also spread on the streets. After the contract for door-to-door garbage collection and waste disposal was awarded, city council officials have become more relaxed.

No attention is paid to the city’s cleanliness system. Before the contract was awarded, there was less rubbish on the streets, but the system has now completely fallen into disrepair. Even after a Rs 5 crore contract was awarded for the city’s cleanliness system, the city is falling into the filth pit. Almost 33 days have passed since the council awarded the contract for waste collection and disposal to the contractor, but the contractor has not yet been able to make arrangements. Even in the nine years since the inception of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the city’s cleanliness regime is still the same.

People throw rubbish on main streets

The city’s population has increased to around two lakhs, due to which daily garbage generation in households has also increased. Since there is no complete door-to-door garbage collection in 31 districts of the city, people throw garbage on the streets, making the garbage visible even on the main streets of the city. Garbage is constantly being distributed near Ambedkar Chowk, Naiwali Chowk, near Post Office, near Yadav Dharamshala, in front of the Tehsil, in front of the Secretariat and near the cremation ground on Garhi Bolni Road in the city’s ring road .

The contractor is unable to make complete agreements

The company that takes on the garbage collection tender is responsible for everything from wet and dry garbage collection to disposal. The contractor had to deploy 40 vehicles, 3 JCBs, 2 excavators, 4 highways, 4 tractors, 8 e-rickshaws and 19 hand rickshaws for garbage collection but so far the work is going on with around 23 vehicles including 2 e-rickshaws. For this reason, the entire city’s garbage is not collected.

Lack of cleanliness

Apart from 31 wards in the city, 353 cleaners are responsible for cleaning the markets and main roads. Many of these employees also remain on vacation every day. Due to the size of many stations, they are not cleaned regularly. According to the authorities, there is a requirement to use one sweeper for every 400 inhabitants, according to which the number of sweepers in the city should be around 600.

People are not aware of it, officials are lazy

The cleanliness week was launched by the local council two days ago. As part of the campaign, cleaning is also carried out by forming teams with sweepers. People are also encouraged to join the campaign and cooperate in maintaining cleanliness, but still people do not throw the garbage in garbage bins but throw it on the street. Even the officials of the local council are not entirely committed to ensuring the cleanliness of the city. Even at the landfill in front of the MRF Center and Rao Tularam Park in the middle of the city, the garbage has been rotting for a long time, but this garbage is not being disposed of.
