LUVAS scientists receive patent for immediate detection of mumps in animals

Hisar News:The central government has entrusted the technique of point-of-care testing for mumps in animals to veterinary microbiology scientists at the College of Veterinary Sciences at Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Hisar. She has received a 20-year patent for the development.

In 2014, the team led by Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Arvind Kumar from the Department of Veterinary Microbiology completed research on Galghotu in animals. This research was conducted by Dr. Pankaj performed as part of his doctoral thesis. The concept behind the research was to develop an on-site screening and diagnostic test for strangulation pathogens in cattle and buffalo. Galghotu is a disease responsible for a quick and fatal death in buffalo. This test tests and examines Galghotu on site within 30 seconds. The patent was filed on March 20, 2015. The patent office then examined the research results and after about eight years the patent was granted. Now, if anyone uses the method of this research, they must get permission from the scientists of Luvas.

Vice-Chancellor of Luvas Prof. (Dr.) Vinod Kumar Verma appreciated the advances in the study of diphtheria and hoped that this test would contribute to the eradication of diphtheria disease in animals. The chancellor dr. SS Dhaka and the Dean of the College of Veterinary Science Dr. Gulshan Narang and the head of the Department of Microbiology Dr. Rajesh congratulated Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Arvind Kumar on this achievement.
