Kaithal: Additional sessions Judge Kaithal Dr. Gagandeep Kaur Singh’s court sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. Failure to pay the fine faces an additional 17 months in prison. It was also ordered to pay the victim five lakh rupees in compensation on behalf of the DLSA. The victim will be paid 40,000 rupees after recovering the fine from the perpetrator.
The victim’s mother had filed a complaint under the IPC and POCSO sections in the Police Station Civil Line on May 24, 2021. DDA JB Goyal represented the case on behalf of the prosecution. He was assisted by lawyer Aditya Garg. Goyal quoted from FIR that the applicant’s 15-year-old minor daughter had been abducted by an unknown person in the morning. At that time, the applicant’s husband and son had gone to work at the vegetable market, which the stranger used to kidnap their daughter.
He and his family members went in search of the girl on their own, but she was nowhere to be found. The police started the investigation by registering a case and using cyber cells to verify the location of her phone. She learned that the girl was staying in the Sahnewal district of Ludhiana Punjab. On this basis, the police retrieved the girl and, after counseling and medical treatment, handed her over to the heirs. The girl’s testimony before the judge was also recorded. The accused Sawan was then arrested, who testified that he had taken the girl to Sahnewal under the pretext of marriage and raped her three times in a rented room. The police prepared the challan and presented it to the court. A total of 19 witnesses were brought forward in the case. After listening to both sides, ADJ told Dr. Gagandeep Kaur found Sawan guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of 85,000 rupees. The accused is already in prison.
