Jind: District and Sessions Court Judge Amarjit Singh sentenced the son-in-law to life imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees for murdering his mother-in-law by strangling her throat about four and a half years ago to give her a share in the land. If the fine is not paid, the convicted person faces an additional prison sentence of three months.
Kamal, a resident of Uchana Kala village, said in the complaint filed with the police on July 10, 2020, that Manju, daughter of elder brother Sewa Singh, was married to Sandeep, a resident of Sulchani village. After Seva Singh’s death, his wife Indro had an affair with her brother-in-law Kamal. Indro and Kamal have two girls and a boy. Sandeep wanted a share in his late father-in-law Seva Singh’s land. Due to this, Sandeep had differences with his wife Manju. Both of them live in a rented house in different places in Jind city. Instead of taking a share of her father Seva Singh’s land, Manju had it transferred to her mother Indro’s name, which Sandeep was unhappy about.
On the night of July 9, Sandeep reached his in-laws’ village Uchana Kalan and attacked his mother-in-law Indro, who was sleeping on the cot, on the neck with a sharp weapon. Other family members woke up when Indro raised the alarm. The defendant then fled. As a result, Indro died on the spot. Acting on Kamal Singh’s complaint, the Uchana police station had registered a case against his son-in-law Sandeep on various charges including murder and arrested him. The matter has since been investigated. On Thursday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Amarjeet Singh found the deceased’s son-in-law Sandeep guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees.
