He won the last two elections of the Modi wave in a row. Ratan Lal Kataria was appointed State Vice President of BJYM in 1980. After that, he was entrusted with many great tasks by the party.

From 2001 to 2003 he was appointed Party Spokesman, All India General Secretary of Scheduled Caste Morcha and Party President. Ratan Lal Kataria was elected MP of Ambala on October 6, 1999.
