Bhiwani: At the Junior World Boxing held in Armenia from November 24 to December 4, boxer Nisha Guleria of Bhiwani Boxing Club showed a brilliant performance and brought glory to the country by winning the gold medal in the 52 kg weight category. When medalist Nisha reached the BBC on Saturday, sports coaches and sports enthusiasts greeted her with flowers and garlands and wished her a bright future.
The club’s head coach Jagdish Singh said that Nisha won her second consecutive gold medal in a month. Nisha had also won the gold medal at the Junior Asian Boxing held in Kazakhstan from October 24 to November 4. Nisha’s two elder sisters Lalita and Neha are also boxers. Lalita has also won the Asian Youth Championship in the 69kg weight category and the title of Best Female Boxer in Asia and Neha recently won the bronze medal in the 57kg weight category at the National Games in Goa.

Club patron Kamal Singh Pradhan said that Nisha performed brilliantly at the World Boxing Competition and won the gold medal by defeating the Russian boxer 4-1 in the semi-final and the Kazakh boxer 5-0 in the final. He said this was the club’s 21st medal in world boxing, including the Olympics, which is a world record that includes 11 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze medals.
