Sexual harassment of female teachers, DCW intervened, action initiated, know the matter

Following the intervention of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), the Directorate of Education has initiated disciplinary action against the Vice Principal of Kadipur Government School in connection with the sexual harassment of female teachers. According to the DCW, several complaints of sexual and mental harassment were received against the Vice Principal of Kadipur Government School. The complainants said that the accused had sexually and mentally harassed the female teachers of the school. The teachers had also complained against him several times to the higher authorities. The Commission was informed that the Staff Level Grievance Redressal Committee of the school inquired into the matter and on inquiry into the matter found the allegations against the accused to be true and recommended his transfer/suspension.

Further, the Commission also found that an FIR was also registered against the said accused person. Thereafter, the complainants alleged that they were being threatened for complaining against the said person. In this regard, summons were issued to DCW Deputy Director of Education (North West-A), who informed that an inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the matter.

After this, the DCW issued summons to the Director of Education and sought an action taken report in the matter. Upon which the senior officials of the Directorate of Education appeared before the Commission on May 15, 2023 and informed that the accused Vice Principal has been transferred from the school and the matter has been referred to the District Local Complaints Committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act Has gone. Describing this action as insufficient, Swati demanded strict action against the accused person. Thereafter the officer again appeared before the Commission and stated that the Director of Education has decided to initiate disciplinary action against the accused person.

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal said that sexual harassment at workplace is a harsh reality across the world. It is unfortunate that such incidents happen in schools as well. She said that the DCW has a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment and the commission will stand with the female teachers for justice.
