Satyendar Jain: ‘Supreme’ relief to Satyendar Jain, interim bail with conditions

Former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court for 6 weeks. This decision has been taken in view of Jain’s poor health condition. Satyendra Jain’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi had demanded an early hearing from the court, citing his ill health. The vacation bench of Supreme Court Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Sanjay Karol has given this decision. Along with this, the court has also put some conditions during this period. He said that Satyendar Jain will not be allowed to go out of Delhi.

Satyendar Jain, lodged in Tihar Jail, had fallen in jail on Thursday due to dizziness. After this he was admitted to the hospital and kept on oxygen support. He was first admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (DDU) and later shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) due to breathing problem.

ED said – cannot trust the medical report

Opposing the bail of Satyendar Jain, the ED told the Supreme Court that it cannot rely on the medical report of LNJP. Also, he has demanded that Satyendar Jain should be examined by a panel of doctors from AIIMS so that the exact condition can be revealed.

Supreme Court sets conditions for bail of Satyendar Jain

The Supreme Court said that Jain should be granted interim bail for 6 weeks to get treatment in a private hospital of his choice. Justice JK Maheshwari said that he would be released on interim bail on the conditions of the trial court. It has also been submitted that the petitioner shall not influence any witness, shall not meet them and shall not tamper with the evidence. The court said that his medical report will be presented before the court on July 10 and the matter will be heard again on July 11.

Satyendar Jain was arrested by the ED on May 30 last year in a money laundering case. At the same time, on May 31, the trial court sent Satyendar Jain to ED custody. Since then he is serving sentence in Tihar Jail. The CBI had registered a case against Satyendar Jain in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Considering this as the basis, he had also registered a case of money laundering.
