Delhi: The Delhi government has become strict regarding the street lights that are switched off in various areas of Delhi. In this regard, Delhi’s PWD Minister Atishi has issued a show cause notice to five engineers for malfunctioning street lights in various areas of Delhi. Officials gave this information on Monday.

Notices were issued to four engineers from South Delhi and one from North-West Delhi division on Friday. According to a notice issued to one of the officials, a review conducted on December 7 on the instructions of Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi found that only 7,612 streets out of the total 7,742 under their jurisdiction were constructed. Lights are working.

It was said in the notice that some street lights have been out of order for a long time, which has received a lot of criticism in the media. The minister and senior officials have taken this very seriously. It said that since you have assumed charge on December 2, you are advised to personally look into the matter and ensure that the street lights are operational by December 10. A compliance report should be submitted to this office by 11th December.

In the notice issued to the engineer of North-West Delhi, it has been said that out of total 11 thousand 72 street lights in his jurisdiction, only 10 thousand 611 are working. The notice said that it is directed to explain the reasons why these street lights are switched off and why they could not be repaired in time. Your reply should be submitted to this office within a week of the issue of this letter.
