The proceedings have been adjourned 5 times since Wednesday till the present time. In this election, corporator of Aam Aadmi Party and corporator of BJP clashed with each other. During this, there was a lot of fighting. The House faced repeated adjournments amid heavy sloganeering and uproar. In this election, the councilors were so angry that they started picking up the ballot boxes and throwing them in the well.
Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi alleged
Delhi’s newly elected mayor Shelli Oberoi alleged that some BJP corporators tried to assault her during the proceedings to hold elections to elect six members of the standing committee. Condemning the attack on the woman Mayor in these elections, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said that this is a completely shocking and unacceptable incident.
BJP accused
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that the AAP did not want the standing committee elections to be held as it would be defeated. The way AAP obstructed the Standing Committee elections by first allowing the use of phones and later by throwing bottles in the House from the visitors’ gallery, it is clear that they will not allow the elections to take place because they are losing. Along with this said that the mayor is the nominal head of the Municipal Corporation, it is a permanent committee that has executive powers.
The powers to accord financial approval to projects, discuss and finalize policies to be implemented, appoint sub-committees and make rules are within the purview of the Standing Committee.

Reacting to this, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that BJP councilors want to stall the standing committee elections. The Supreme Court had clearly said that all elections should be held in the first sitting, so we want elections today itself, be it at night or in the morning.
