Raipur. Active in Chhattisgarh for the last 4 months, ED has arrested two mineral officials of the state on Wednesday. ED produced both the officers in the Seventh Sessions Court of capital Raipur. The ED sought five days’ remand for questioning these two. But after hearing the defense, the court ordered both the accused to be sent to jail on judicial remand for two days. Including these two, a total of 8 people have been arrested in this case.
It is being told that this time the ED has arrested the District Mineral Officer SS Nag. Nag is currently the Deputy Director of the Mineral Department in Korba. Prior to this, he was the Mineral Officer in Raigad. The ED has been questioning him for the past several weeks about his conduct during his posting in Raigarh. It is being told that Nag was arrested by the ED in the early hours of Wednesday from his house in Jagdalpur. Due to special judge Ajay Pratap Singh Rajput being on leave, ADJ Vandana was produced in the court of Deepak Dewangan. Surajpur’s Assistant Mineral Officer Sandeep Nayak has also been arrested along with them.
Allegations of illegal levy collection
The ED alleges that the business of illegal levy collection in coal transportation is going on with the connivance of state officials, some politicians and businessmen. With the help of a gang, these people used to collect levy at the rate of Rs.25 for every ton of coal transported. It was claimed that Rs 500 crore has been earned from this illegal levy in 16 months. This money has reached the officers, politicians and businessmen. This money has been used for setting up benami properties and money laundering. After the hearing, the court ordered both the accused to be produced in the special ED court on January 27 at 4 pm. The ED remand of land trader Dipesh Tank, arrested three days back, is also ending on January 27. He will also have to appear in the court on January 27 along with these two.
ED’s action continues in Chhattisgarh since October
On October 11, the ED raided 75 locations of several officers and businessmen in the state. After preliminary investigation and questioning, on October 13, the then CEO of Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society-CHIPS, Sameer Vishnoi, coal baron Sunil Agarwal and lawyer-businessman Laxmikant Tiwari were arrested in this case. He was sent to jail in judicial custody after being interrogated for 14 days remand. On October 29, Suryakant Tiwari, another accused in the case, surrendered in the court. Suryakant was also sent to judicial custody after 10 days of questioning. In the same case, on December 2, Soumya Chaurasia, Deputy Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office was also arrested in the same case. After this Dipesh Tank, who sold the land to Saumya Chaurasia’s family, was also arrested. All these accused are lodged in jail.
