Raja Sharma-Dongargarh. Dahi Handi loot program is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Dongargarh assembly of Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh. On the second day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the Dahi Handi Loot program is celebrated here in a grand manner. Dongargarh has the third place in the Dahi Handi program in the whole of India, the first is called Mathura Vrindavan, the second Bombay and the third Dongargarh.
People are celebrating this festival for 106 years
The people of Dongargarh have been celebrating the Dahi Handi program here for the last 106 years. This program was first started by the Gattani family. Till today, on the second day of Krishna Janmashtami, from the house of Gattani family, the dola for Krishna ji goes to Mahavir temple (Hanuman ji with moustache). After offering prayers to Lord Krishna in the Mahavir temple, Krishna is taken from the temple in a palanquin and taken on a tour across the city with musical instruments. In which Dola is welcomed by women and families at various places in the city. The program is concluded by Krishna ji’s dola passing through all the localities of the city and coming back to the Mahavir temple.
A reward of lakhs is kept
Dahi Handi loot programs are organized by the organizing committees at various places within the city. A good amount of reward is also kept in big committees. Groups from far and wide come to participate in looting the Dahi Handi. Lakhs of people gather to watch this programme. Before organizing this program, officials of the police administration, health department, municipal administration organize a meeting of the peace committee 2 to 3 times and call all sections of people and officials of the committees organizing the program and prepare an outline. The police department plays an important role in this. Apart from the local police station, police personnel from outside are called to maintain the peace and order of the city. Along with this, the ambulance of the health department is also kept behind the dola so that people can get immediate health benefits.
