Answer sought from the Bihar government on the petition against the release of Anand Mohan.

The controversy over the release of Bihar’s strongman leader and former MP Anand Mohan does not seem to be ending. The Supreme Court on Monday heard the petition of IAS officer G Krishnaiah’s wife against the release of Anand Mohan. The Supreme Court, while hearing the petition, has asked the Bihar Government and Anand Mohan to file their reply within two weeks. Also, the court will hear the matter after two weeks. Anand Mohan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of IAS officer G Krishnaiah, was released from Saharsa jail last month following an amendment in Bihar prison rules.

what was the matter

Former MP Anand Mohan was released from Saharsa Jail in Bihar on 27 April. Mohan was convicted for the murder of G Krishnaiah, the then DM of Gopalganj in 1994. Anand Mohan was serving life sentence in Krishnaiah’s murder case. Bihar’s prison manual was changed by the Bihar government and after that it was said that 27 prisoners who have been sentenced to 14 years or 20 years will be released.

G Krishnaiah’s wife Uma opposed the decision

Expressing displeasure over the Bihar government, G Krishnaiah’s wife Uma said that Nitish Kumar is setting a terrible example by releasing a person convicted of murder. This will encourage criminals to attack government officials, as they know they can easily get out of jail. Also, he had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should intervene in this matter. Uma said that my husband was an IAS officer and it is the responsibility of the central government to get justice for him.
