Venues decided for WPL 2024, 22 matches will be played in two cities, second season may start from February 22

New Delhi. BCCI has selected Bengaluru and Delhi to host the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024). BCCI has also tentatively fixed a window for the second season of the tournament between February 22 and March 17.

The first leg of the Women’s Premier League will be played in Bengaluru while Delhi will host the second leg, including the knockouts, ESPNcricinfo has learned. By holding this tournament of 5 teams with 22 matches at two venues, the pitches at both the venues will remain fresh for the IPL 2024 starting from March 22.

The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League was played last year. Then the matches were played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had recently said that the BCCI would like to hold the second season of the BCCI Women’s Premier League in one state as well to overcome the logistical challenges of holding the tournament at different venues within a small window.

However, BCCI decided that 2 venues would be a better option. But there is only one stadium in Bengaluru (M Chinnaswamy Stadium) and Delhi (Arun Jaitley Stadium) and matches will be played on both these venues for 10 consecutive days. Till now neither IPL nor WPL have had matches at the same venue for more than two consecutive days. Let us tell you that Mumbai Indians is the defending champion of the Women’s Premier League. Mumbai team had defeated Delhi Capitals in the final of the opening season.
