The Kerala Story: The controversy surrounding the film ‘The Kerala Story’, which was released in theaters on May 5, does not seem to subside. After Madhya Pradesh, now the film has been made tax free in UP as well. Monday before West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced to ban the film ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state. At the same time, a few days ago the screening of the film was canceled by multiplexes in Tamil Nadu.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that the Uttar Pradesh government is making the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free in the state. The Chief Minister’s Secretariat said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with his cabinet colleagues can watch the film at a special screening to be held at Lok Bhawan. UP BJP secretary Raghvendra Mishra recently showed the film to 100 girl students in Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has become the second state after Madhya Pradesh to make the controversial film tax-free.

Recently Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced to make the film ‘The Kerala Story’ tax free in the state. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a video message that the film shows how lives of daughters trapped in the web of love jihad get ruined. It also exposes the design of terrorism. We have already brought a law against forced conversions, the film creates awareness about the issue. Everyone should see this film and therefore the Madhya Pradesh government is declaring the film tax free. The film has received support from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election rally in Karnataka saying that the film ‘The Kerala Story’ is trying to highlight the consequences of terrorism in a society.
What is the story of the film ‘The Kerala Story’
Directed by director Sudipto Sen, ‘The Kerala Story’ tells the story of more than 32,000 Kerala women joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The film depicts how the girls of Kerala are brainwashed by Islamic fundamentalists and converted to Islam by doing love jihad with them. After this they are sent to Syria.
