Saurabh Tiwari Retirement:Jharkhand’s left-handed batsman Saurabh Tiwari announced his retirement from professional cricket. 34 year old Saurabh will play his last match for Jharkhand from 16th February. Ranji Trophy match between Jharkhand and Rajasthan will start from this day in Jamshedpur. Saurabh started playing cricket at the age of 11. He made his first-class debut in the 2006–07 Ranji Trophy season and then participated in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia under Virat Kohli. Then India became champion.

Saurabh Tiwari had a strong performance for Mumbai Indians in the 2010 IPL after the Under-19 World Cup. He had scored 419 runs. This year, Saurabh got a call from Team India for the first time. But, Saurabh had to wait till October for his international debut. He had scored 49 runs in three ODIs. He returned unbeaten in 2 of these.

Saurabh scored the most runs for Jharkhand in his first class career of 17 years. He currently has 8030 runs in 189 innings at an average of 47.51, including 22 centuries and 34 half-centuries, which is more than MS Dhoni’s 7038 runs in 131 matches.

Saurabh Tiwari said in a press conference at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur on Monday, "I have been a boy who started playing cricket even before schooling. Today it is difficult to say goodbye to such a long journey. But, I know that this is the right time for this decision. I feel that if you cannot join the Indian team or are not even playing in the IPL, then it is better to free up space for the youth in the Jharkhand team. The youth are getting a lot of opportunities in our team right now and that is why this decision of mine is absolutely right."

Saurabh captained Jharkhand in 88 matches in all formats. Out of these, 36 matches were won, 33 were lost and 19 were drawn. He also led the East Zone team seven times (6 times in the 50-over Deodhar Trophy in 2023 and once in the four-day Duleep Trophy in 2010). In the 2023-24 Ranji season, Jharkhand has achieved only one win in 6 matches and the team is out of the race for the quarter-finals.
