Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the old Parliament House.
Samvidhan Sadan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday proposed to name the old Parliament building as ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ after both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha houses are shifted to the new building. He said that the dignity of the building in which Parliament sessions have been held for the last 75 years should not be diminished by merely calling it an old building.
Speaking at an event in the Central Hall in the presence of MPs from both Houses, PM Modi said every law made in Parliament, every discussion held and every gesture given should boost Indian aspiration. Referring to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, PM Modi suggested giving a new name to the history-making old Parliament building.

PM Modi further said that referring to the building as ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ would be a tribute to the leaders who created history in Parliament. He said that we should not miss the opportunity to give this gift to future generations.
Let us tell you that PM Modi has put forward this proposal while speaking in a program organized before the Parliament shifted to the new building in the Central Hall. After this, PM Modi and all the MPs moved from the old building to the new building. At the same time, on the inauguration day of the new Parliament building on Tuesday, all the MPs received a gift bag, which contained a copy of the Constitution, books related to Parliament, a commemorative coin and a ticket.
It is noteworthy that today, on the second day of the five-day special session of the Parliament, India’s new Parliament building has officially opened its doors for the MPs. This change was made today on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. On Monday, the first day of the five-day special session of Parliament, all the MPs gathered in the Old Parliament House to recall their experiences there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the discussion in the session and said that it is an emotional moment to say goodbye to this old building.
