Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Doni Polo, the first greenfield airport of Arunachal Pradesh. Also, dedicated the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station to the nation. Built over an area of more than 690 acres, this airport stands out from the rest. Before we tell the features of this airport, let us tell you what PM Modi said on the inauguration of this airport.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that I had inaugurated this airport in February 2019. Got the good fortune of laying the foundation stone of this airport today. He said that we have brought such a work culture, under which we also inaugurate the foundation stone laid. Now the era of hanging, stalling and misleading has passed.
The PM said that some people used to say that the foundation stone of the airport was laid for the elections to be held in Arunachal Pradesh. Today, the inauguration of this airport is a tight slap on those who made the allegations. He said that we work for the development of the country. We do not work for the benefit of elections. He also praised the simplicity and way of life of the people of Arunachal. Also, heartily congratulated everyone for the inauguration of this airport. During this Union Minister Kiren Rijiju was also present.
This airport is special in this sense
Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport has been built in Itanagar over an area of over 690 acres. It has cost more than Rs 640 crore. Its runway length is 2,300 meters. The airport is suitable for all weather operations. The special thing is that facilities have been made available at the airport to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and recycling of resources. Doni Polo Airports have been built at the first two places in Arunachal Pradesh. Now with the opening of the third airport, the total number of airports in the north-eastern region of the country will increase to 16.
Increasing number of flights in North Eastern states
There is an increase in flights of aircraft in the northeastern states. The movement of aircraft in the North-East has also increased by 113 per cent since 2014. Before the formation of Modi government, there were 852 flights per week, which has increased to 1817 per week in 2022. On the other hand, if we talk about the airport, from 1947 to 2014 only nine airports were built in the north-east. After this, till now the Modi government has built seven airports.
