This is called Group of Seven. Initially it was a group of six countries, whose first meeting was held in 1975. Possible solutions to the global economic crisis were discussed in this meeting. The very next year, Canada also became a part of it. This is how the G-7 group was formed. G-7 was sometimes G-6 and sometimes G-8. The G-7 is unique in that it does not have any headquarters in any country.

India will be able to become a permanent member of G-7

If we look at the G-7 Summit held in the last five years, India has been invited as a guest country in all the summits. India’s GDP is almost equal to the G-7 major country Britain. At the same time, it is more than other member countries such as France, Italy and Canada. India is the third largest country in the world spending budget on defence. This is the reason why G-7 has been inviting India to every summit for the last several years, due to which it is being speculated that India will soon become a permanent member of G-7.
