Appointment of CBI Director:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the premier investigative agency of the country. According to media reports, the CBI chief is appointed by the selection committee. The Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Leader of the Opposition are present in this committee. If there is no Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, then the leader of the largest opposition party in the House is included in this committee. In this process, applications are sought from the officers, after which their appointment is finalized. Till 2014, the Chief of the CBI was appointed by the DSPE Act of 1946, but from 2014, by the Lokpal Act, he was appointed by a committee consisting of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the Leader of the Opposition.

When was the CBI formed

The CBI was formed in 1941 to prevent bribery related to the purchase of war material during the Second World War. It is a statutory body, but it has powers of investigation under the Special Police Act, 1946. The main purpose of its creation was to curb corruption. Later, the CBI was also entrusted with the responsibility of other investigations like famous murders, crimes, kidnappings, crimes.

What is the process of removing the CBI chief?

However, after the Vipin Narayan case in 1997, under the order of the Supreme Court, his tenure was reduced to at least two years so that he could do his work independently.

Also, to remove these, the Department of Personnel and Training has to report to the High Label Committee. What is the salary of CBI chief

The salary of a CBI Chief ranges between 1.60 lakh to 2.20 lakh. Despite this, many types of facilities are provided to them on basic salary. Dearness allowance is 120 percent of the basic salary. Last year, the government has issued a new order regarding the salary of CBI. According to this, the CBI chief will get the same salary as the IAS officers. In this, the officers will get a salary of 2.25 lakhs every month. This includes separate allowances.
