News2News.in Explainer: The G-20 meeting has started in Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir from today. India is presiding over the G-20 this year. Representatives of 16 countries and 65 representatives of Latin organizations are participating in this meeting. Superstar Ramcharan danced to the tunes of the Oscar-winning song ‘Naatu Naatu’ along with the G20 delegates. This is the first time in almost 30 years, when foreign guests are participating in the program organized in Jammu and Kashmir. In today’s News2News.in Explainer, we will tell you what is G-20, what is the meaning of its meeting in Kashmir. Along with this, we will also throw light on the security arrangements made for the G-20 meeting.

The goal of the G-20 meeting

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is hosting a two-day G-20 Working Group meeting from today till May 24. It is a part of a series of meetings ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi in September. This meeting is being held for the tourism working group. The possibilities of foreign tourism will be discussed in this meeting.

What is G-20, due to which Pakistan and China are also worried

G-20 means Group of Twenty, it is a group of major developed and developing countries of the world. It includes 20 countries. These countries include Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, European Union Are. Not only Pakistan but China is also upset about the G-20 meeting. Before telling about this, let us tell when the G-20 was established and who has been its president till now.

When was G-20 established

The G-20 was founded in 1999 by 20 finance ministers and central bank governors in the US. The first summit of G-20 was started in 2008 by the President of America regarding the financial crisis in Asia. Since then the G-20 summit started happening every year. India is hosting this conference for the first time.

India chair of G-20

From 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, India is presiding over the G-20. It is a matter of pride for the people of India.

Why did Pakistan and China panic

Pakistan’s fury over the G-20 meeting being held in Kashmir has come to the fore. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that India cannot suppress the voice of Kashmiris through the conference. If India is thinking of suppressing the voice of Kashmiris, then it is wrong. He alleged that on the one hand, India is projecting itself as a superpower, while on the other, it is violating the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

China also showed eyes

China did not participate in the G-20 meeting held in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh is a part of India without any dispute and China keeps trying to make this state of India its own. There are frequent skirmishes between the soldiers of the two countries on the Sino-Indian border in Arunachal Pradesh. Before the G-20 meeting, it was also said by the Foreign Ministry of China that if there is an intrusion on our land, we will not tolerate it. If China’s neighboring countries are also to be believed, then China always tries to capture the lands around it.

Security arrangements chalked out on alert of terrorist attack

Srinagar has been at the center of an insurgency by militant groups against the Indian government since 1989. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the disputed region, despite a reduction in violence in recent years. For this reason, a UN envoy had objected to holding the G20 meeting there. The UN envoy had alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, in response to which the Indian government rejected these objections as baseless and unwarranted. The Government of India is fully prepared for the meeting.

Valley police chief Vijay Kumar said commandos have been deployed at various places in the city and members of the Anti-Terrorism Force have also been deployed at various places. Also Marine commandos are patrolling in Dal Lake. Apart from this, security personnel are keeping vigil on the ground. In view of this global event in Srinagar, three layer security has been arranged.

International event after 30 years

This is the first major international level event in the Kashmir Valley after 30 years. In 1986, ODI cricket was played in India and Australia. Since then no international level event has been held in the valley. Due to the current situation in Kashmir being not very good, adequate security arrangements have been made by the Government of India. In Srinagar, terrorists have stepped up their efforts to disrupt the G-20 meeting. So far this year, ten Indian soldiers and seven civilians have been killed in four attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian security officials say they are concerned that terrorist organizations are trying to attack the G-20 summit.
