In the Assembly, Minister Sanjay Rathore said the government has launched an inquiry against 84 out of 108 manufacturers of cough syrup in the state, with four companies being directed to stop production. At the same time, the licenses of six companies have been suspended. He said show-cause notices had been issued to 17 firms for flouting the companies rules. Referring to the death of 66 children in Gambia by Shelar, minister Sanjay Rathod said the company which was facing allegations of flouting norms in this case was based in Haryana and did not have any manufacturing unit in Maharashtra. He said that strict action has been taken against those who violate the rules. Rathod said that out of 996 allopathic drug manufacturers in Maharashtra, 514 manufacturers export their products.
At the same time, the presiding officer in this case Sanjay Shirsat said that if 20 percent drug manufacturers have faced raids due to violation of rules, then this matter should be taken seriously, because this matter is like playing with people’s lives.
