Lala Amarnath Birthday:Today i.e. 11th September is the birthday of India’s great cricket player Lala Amarnath. He was born on September 11, 1911 in a poor Punjabi speaking Brahmin family in Kapurthala, Punjab. Due to the death of his father in his childhood, his early life was spent in great sorrow. After his father’s death, seeing his talent, a Muslim cricket family in Lahore adopted Amarnath. His original name was Nanik Amarnath Bhardwaj. Lala Amarnath started his cricket career as a wicket-keeper batsman, but due to his versatility, he is known for swing bowling along with the bat. He died on August 5, 2000 in New Delhi at the age of 88.

Lala Amarnath was the captain of the first cricket team of independent India. He served in the Indian cricket team from 1933 to 1955. Lala Amarnath holds the record of playing cricket for India for the longest time after Sachin Tendulkar. However, his career during this period was not that glorious. Due to the freedom struggle as well as the politics going on in Indian cricket, most of his time was spent away from the field. The World War also had an impact on his career. This is the reason why he often became a victim of controversies in his career. In his long career, Amarnath played only 24 test matches for India.
Amarnath’s cricket career
Indian captain Amarnath made his debut on December 15, 1933 at the age of just 21. He scored a brilliant century on his debut for India. In his career, he scored 878 runs in 24 Test matches and took 45 wickets. Amarnath played 186 matches in first-class cricket, in which he scored 10,426 runs and also took 463 wickets.
