A major accident has taken place in Malappuram district of Kerala. A boat carrying passengers capsized in the river near Thuvalathiram beach in Tanur on Sunday evening. So far 21 people have died in this accident. According to media reports, there were about 40 people on board the boat at the time of the accident. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the NDRF team and top officials reached the spot. Rescue operation is being carried out fast to save people.

Some people have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. An official said more people are feared trapped under the boat and efforts are on to rescue them. The reason for this accident has not been known yet. Police will investigate this matter.
Kerala health minister called an emergency meeting
In the midst of the accident in Malappuram district of Kerala, Kerala Health Minister Veena George called an emergency meeting of the state health department at midnight after the incident and directed the officials to provide better treatment to the injured. The Health Minister has also directed for better treatment of the injured and speeding up the post-mortem process, so that the dead bodies of those who died in the accident can be handed over to their relatives soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over this accident. He said through tweet that I am saddened by the death of people in the boat capsize accident in Malappuram, Kerala. Condolences to the families of the deceased. Also, the PM has announced Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased.
