According to sources, Iyer has informed the Indian team management and medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels back pain while playing forward defence. Talking about Iyer’s performance in the Test series against England, it was nothing special. In the first innings of the first Test, he scored 35 runs on 63 balls and in the second innings he scored 13 runs on 31 balls. Iyer had scored 27 runs in the first innings of the second match played in Visakhapatnam and 29 runs in the second innings. He has scored 811 runs in 24 innings of 14 Tests played so far at an average of 36.86. During this period he has scored 5 half-centuries and 1 century.
