Rashid Khan Ruled Out From IND vs AFG Series :Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan will not take part in the 3-match T20 series against India as he has not fully recovered from lower back surgery. Due to this reason, Rashid had to be out of Big Bash League and SA20 also. Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran confirmed that Rashid had traveled to Chandigarh with the team but is not yet fit for the match.
Ibrahim said, "He (Rashid) is not fully fit but is traveling with the team. We hope he will be fit as soon as we are expecting. He is completing his rehab with the doctor. He will be missed in the series. Without Rashid we will struggle but not that much because his experience is very important for all of us, but this is cricket and you have to be prepared for any kind of situation."
Ibrahim further said, "Playing against India at home is a difficult task. But we are here to play well against them and show our skills. We have a lot of good T20 players. So I am sure they will play well. Our series against India will be good."
Rashid Khan has not played competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup held in India in October-November and he also missed the recent T20 series against UAE. Afghanistan won this series 2-1. In Rashid’s absence, the responsibility of the spin department will be handled by bowlers like Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmed, Qais Ahmed and Sharafuddin Ashraf.
Qais, who has taken charge of Afghanistan’s legspin in Rashid’s absence, was the leading wicket-taker in the UAE series with 6 wickets at an average of 11 and an economy rate of 6.70.
The 3 T20 series between India and Afghanistan is starting from January 11 in Mohali. Indore and Bengaluru will host the second and third T20 matches on January 14 and 17.
