New Delhi. Virat Kohli will not play the first T20 against Afghanistan to be held in Mohali on Thursday. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed this. Dravid told in the pre-match conference that Virat will not play the first match due to personal reasons. However, he will be available for the second and third T20 to be held in Indore and Bangalore.
Kohli has returned to the Indian T20 team after 14 months. He last played T20 in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Then he faced England in the semi-finals. India had lost that match. Rohit Sharma was also out of the Indian T20 team since this match.
Rohit Sharma has also returned to the Indian T20 team along with Virat Kohli and will captain the T20 series against Afghanistan. In the absence of Kohli, Shubman Gill will bat at number 3 in the first T20 against Afghanistan. Head coach Rahul Dravid himself has confirmed this. From this it has become clear that Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings with Rohit Sharma in Mohali T20.
