Sonam Wangchuk Climate Fast: Activist, engineer and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk is on a 5-day fast from today to save Ladakh. After his announcement, India’s ‘ice desert’ Ladakh, hidden in the lap of the Himalayas, has once again become a topic of discussion among environmentalists, climate enthusiasts and citizens. Ladakhi icon Sonam Wangchuk has started a five-day fast to protest against the climate issues of Ladakh from the morning of January 26, Republic Day. During the fast, he will petition the Government of India for constitutional protection of the ecologically fragile Ladakh glaciers.

Sonam Wangchuk shared a release from her Twitter handle in the past day that she is going to have a five-day “Climate Fast” at 18000 feet Khardungla Pass where the temperature is -40 degree Celsius. He also shared a video regarding this. Sonam Wangchuk said, I am going on hunger strike from 26 January Republic Day. Republic Day is the day when India adopted its constitution. I am not going on hunger strike at my house. I would do this on the road and in the cold. I will not go for hunger strike in Leh city but will do it at the height of Khardungla.

In a video titled All is not well in Ladakh, Wangchuk further said, the temperature here drops to -40*C. I will go on hunger strike under the shade of these glaciers in solidarity with them to give a message to the world. If I survive, I will meet you again.

Why is Wangchuk sitting on the last fast?

Regarding the climate fast, Wangchuk said, the first reason for sitting on the five-day climate fast is to appeal for the inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Another reason is that our glaciers and environment cannot be protected by the government alone. So I appeal to the people of India and indeed the world to join me and take a pledge to change our lifestyles because of the emissions we are creating. He is rapidly melting the glaciers of the Himalayas. We face the fear of being left with very little by the end of the century.

Wangchuk has been raising his voice for a long time to save Ladakh

Recipient of prestigious awards like Ramon Magsaysay and Rolex Award, social reformer Sonam Wangchuk told the world that Ladakh was facing serious environmental concerns and called upon the government to fulfill the promise of including the Union Territory in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Let us inform that Aamir Khan’s character in the Bollywood superhit film ‘3 Idiots’ was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk. The name of Aamir’s character in the movie was Ranchoddas Chanchad aka Rancho. The film’s ‘All is well’ dialogue also became very famous. Now Sonam Wangchuk has used this dialogue to present the situation in Ladakh.
