ICC ODI Rankings: India has registered a spectacular victory in the Asia Cup 2023. The Sri Lankan team got defeated in front of India and it seemed as if it itself came and handed over the Asia Cup trophy to India. The level of preparation that India had done for the final match of the Asia Cup was left undone and it won the Asia Cup title with ease. Sri Lanka showed Pakistan the way out in a thrilling match and itself entered the final. Even though Pakistan was out of Asia Cup, still Pakistan has jumped in the ODI rankings and reached number one.
Pakistan benefits from Africa’s victory
It is noteworthy that a series of 5 ODI matches was being played between Australia and South Africa. In the last match, South Africa defeated Australia one-sidedly and won the match by 122 runs. Earlier, Australia had maintained the number one position, but due to such a big defeat, Australia went straight from number one to third position and Pakistan occupied the number one position. India registered a big win against Sri Lanka, despite this India is at second position in One Day Internationals. However, there is not much points difference between India and Pakistan.
India has a chance to become number one
Let us tell you that very soon India can occupy the first position in ODI. After the Asia Cup, India will play a 3-match ODI series against Australia from September 22. Through this series, the Indian team can achieve the number one position. However, if the Indian team could not perform better in this series and Australia defeated India, then Australia would again reach the first position in ODIs. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see which team wins in the ODI rankings between India and Australia.
