CBI Director Praveen Sood: IPS Praveen Sood, the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has taken charge today. His tenure will be of two years. IPS Praveen Sood was currently the DGP of Karnataka. Praveen Sood has taken over as the current CBI Director after the tenure of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal expired.
Praveen Sood’s name was approved by a three-member selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A meeting was held regarding this on May 13 in the evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud (Chief Justice DY Chandrachud) and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary).

Explain that in the meeting held regarding the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), three senior IPS officers were selected for this post, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary had registered his protest against the name of Praveen Sood, because Praveen Sood was not part of the panel of officers who were earlier shortlisted for the post of CBI director. Praveen Sood, a 1986 batch IPS officer, was made the DGP of Karnataka in January 2020. Praveen Sood has studied from IIT Delhi. He was to retire in May 2024, but he will remain on the post of CBI Director for a fixed tenure of two years and will now retire in May 2025.
