Vijayaram Rao, former CBI director and then minister in Andhra Pradesh, passed away on Monday. He was 85 years old. Vijayaram Rao was facing serious illness. Due to which he was admitted to a private hospital on Monday. According to media reports, Rao died during treatment in the evening.

Vijayaram Rao belonged to the IPS batch of 1959 batch. Rao has served in various positions in Andhra Pradesh and the Centre. He was also the Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad City in the early 1980s. He served as the CBI director during the regime of Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and investigated many cases like the hawala scam, Babri Masjid case, Mumbai bomb blasts and others.

Tenure of Vijayaram Rao

Vijayaram Rao, who completed his LLB while in service. Rao wrote a book titled Police Manual after his retirement. He served as the Minister of Roads and Buildings in the cabinet of Chief Minister N Chandrababu in Andhra Pradesh. After the formation of Telangana state, he joined TRS party.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, State Congress President A Revanth Reddy and other leaders condoled the death of Vijayaram Rao. According to media reports, the Chief Minister recalled his association with Vijayaram Rao and appreciated his services as a government official and people’s representative. Along with this, CM KCR issued instructions to the officials that Vijayaram Rao’s last rites should be performed with state honours.
