AFG vs SL Test: Nephew made 35 year old uncle’s test debut, 15 years of wait ended, record partnership between the two in the first match

New Delhi. You must have heard many stories of brothers playing together in cricket. But, such a story of uncle and nephew playing together is rarely heard and seen. But, something similar has happened in the only Test being played between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in Colombo. In this match, the 22 year old nephew made the test debut of his 35 year old uncle. The interesting thing is that this uncle-nephew pair has already done wonders by making a century partnership in the first Test innings.

Here we are talking about Afghanistan’s opening batsmen Ibrahim Zadran and Noor Ali Zadran. Ibrahim handed his uncle Noor Ali his debut cap in the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka. Ibrahim has established his identity as a power hitter in international cricket in a short time. He has proved his mettle in T20 and ODI. He also recently took command of the Afghanistan team in the T20 series against India. But, his uncle Noor Ali Zadran got a chance to make his Test debut at the age of 35.

Nephew made uncle’s test debut
It is not that Noor Zadran has not played international cricket before. He has been playing international cricket for 15 years. But, now I got the chance to make my Test debut. Before his Test debut, Noor Ali had scored 1216 runs in 51 ODIs for Afghanistan. He has also scored a century in ODIs. At the same time, he has scored 597 runs in 23 T20s.

Uncle missed scoring fifty in debut test
This uncle-nephew duo also opened for Afghanistan in the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka. The pair could not add a single run in the first innings. But, in the second, the uncle-nephew duo was a hit.

There was an important partnership of 106 runs for the first wicket between Ibrahim Zadran and Noor Ali. Noor Ali may have missed his half-century but his nephew Ibrahim definitely completed his fifty. Noor Ali was out after scoring 47 runs in the second innings of his debut test.
