Red or white thick spots on the gums, tongue, tonsils or mouth are called leukoplakia. Most leukoplakia patches are noncancerous. However, many scars can be one of the early signs of cancer. These can be caused by excessive use of tobacco products. If anyone sees such signs, he should immediately consult a doctor without delay and stop using tobacco.
