The bus full of pilgrims went out of control and hit the bridge. After this, about 20 people died in this accident and more than two dozen people were injured.

Pilgrims going to perform Umrah

According to media reports, most of the people killed were pilgrims and all of them were going towards the city of Mecca to perform Umrah in the holy month of Ramadan. Umrah falls during the first week of Ramadan, a busy time for Umrah pilgrims, and a few days before millions of Muslims make the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Relief and rescue operations underway

As soon as the bus accident was reported, the police closed the entire area and prepared a separate route for the vehicles passing through that route. Civil Defense and Red Crescent teams reached the spot and the work of rescuing people is underway. The initial treatment of the people injured in this bus accident was done at the Central Hospital in Asir itself, after which they were referred to the private hospital in Abha. According to media reports, all the people who died in this bus accident belonged to different countries.

The danger increases in the month of Ramadan

The month of Ramzan sees an increase in bus accidents. Because this is the month of the year when the roads to Mecca and Medina are very busy. Pilgrims reach Mecca and Madina in large numbers at this time and at the same time a large number of vehicles continue to ply on these roads. Sometimes there is a lack of maintenance of vehicles for such incidents and sometimes the lack of training of the driver also comes to the fore.
