Pulkovo Airport in Russia’s St Petersburg temporarily suspended all flights on Tuesday. No reason for this has been clarified yet, nor has its reason been told yet. The Russian government said on its official Telegram channel that it has suspended all flights at the airport until 12 o’clock local time.
According to media reports, an unknown object was seen in the airspace of Russia and fighter jets were sent to investigate it. Many domestic flights bound for St Petersburg were turning back to their destinations, while flights to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad were also affected by the airspace closure. For this, the airfield is used to fly over St. Petersburg.
A full year has passed since the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Russia attacked Ukraine on 24 February 2022. This is Russia’s biggest war since World War II. Although Russia does not call it a war, rather it calls it a military operation. Thousands of people have lost their lives on both sides in the havoc of this war. In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war, this unknown object has stirred up by appearing in the airspace of St. Petersburg. For this reason all flights from Pulkovo airport have been suspended. Along with this, fighter planes have been sent behind this unknown object so that it can be detected.
