Powerful earthquake jolts Morocco.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 11:11 pm at a depth of 18.5 kilometers, 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh. According to media reports, at least 296 people have died in this earthquake. Additionally, 153 people have been injured. All of them have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that it caused huge damage to many buildings and towns.

Morocco’s National Seismic Monitoring and Warning Network measured the earthquake at 6.8 on the Richter scale. The tremors of this earthquake continued to be felt for a long time. However, officials are still busy gathering information about the extent of the loss.

According to media reports, this earthquake was the most powerful earthquake ever to hit Morocco. Earlier in 2004, an earthquake struck Al Hoceima in northeastern Morocco, killing at least 628 people and injuring 926.
