Israel-Hamas War: An attempt was made to assassinate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Abbas’s security personnel were killed when the attackers opened fire on them. The incident occurred after a group called Sons of Abu Jandal issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Palestinian leader to declare world war against Israel.
Abu Jandal group took responsibility
According to media reports, the Abu Jandal group has taken responsibility for the attack on the convoy of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank. As the time limit had expired, the President’s convoy was fired upon. However, no official statement emerged from the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on the assassination attempt. Its video is going viral on social media.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had earlier visited the West Bank where the incident took place. Assuring President Abbas that the Biden administration is making every possible effort to help the citizens of Gaza. He stressed that Palestinians should have a voice in Gaza’s post-war future. On the day of Blinken’s visit, Israeli planes bombed two refugee camps in Gaza, killing at least 53 people. The Israeli army says it has divided the Gaza Strip into two parts before attacking northern Hamas positions.
attitude of Arab countries
Arab and Muslim nations are demanding an immediate ceasefire as the death toll of Palestinian civilians increases in the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. Several countries, including Jordan and Turkey, have recalled their ambassadors to protest Israel’s tactics and it appears that the tide of international opinion is turning from sympathy to hatred towards Israel after October 7 as the situation in Gaza continues. Pictures of death and destruction are spreading all around.
