Police have arrested 3 executives of Noida based pharmaceutical company in connection with the death of 18 children from cough syrup in Uzbekistan. A complaint was lodged by a drug officer of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization on this matter. Based on this complaint, an FIR has been registered against five officials of Marion Biotech, including its director.

On 22 December 2020, 18 children died in Uzbekistan after drinking cough syrup. The syrup was manufactured at Marion Biotech Pvt Ltd, Sector-67, Noida, India. The Government of Uzbekistan informed the Government of India about this. After this, the matter was taken seriously by the Government of India and raids were conducted on Marion Biotech Company. Samples of medicines were taken from the company and sent to the FSDA team.

At the same time, the UP government had also sent the investigation team of the Department of Medicine from Meerut for cooperation, who also took samples of the syrup and with this they could not stand the test. Doc-1 Max, a syrup manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Marion Biotech, was responsible for the deaths of about 18 children. Taking action against this company, the government had canceled the license of the company in the month of January.

After this, in 2022, children died after drinking cough syrup in Gambia. Gambia raised questions on India’s cough syrup. He said that 66 children had died after drinking Indian cough syrup. After this, the government had constituted an inquiry committee for this. However, nothing was found in these syrups that could harm the children. After this, it was revealed that the children died due to kidney infection, Indian syrup is not responsible for this.
