Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature – “WhatsApp username”, which will let users choose unique usernames for their accounts. According to WABetaInfo, with this feature, users will not have to rely only on phone numbers to identify contacts. Now you will be able to opt for a unique identity username.
The Company may also provide users with the ability to contact others by entering a username within the App without knowing their phone number. Furthermore, the report states that the company is working on introducing the feature within the app settings, specifically, a section for this feature will be available within the WhatsApp settings profile.
The report states that with the facility to choose a username, WhatsApp users will be able to add an extra layer of privacy to their accounts. Currently, WhatsApp username feature is under development. This update will be released to beta testers in the future.
Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that WhatsApp’s billion users can now modify a message within 15 minutes of sending it. The feature has rolled out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. Users will have to long press the sent message and then select ‘Edit’ from the menu for 15 minutes.
