Ramayana and Mahabharata will be taught in schools!

Ramayana-Mahabharata In school Books: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had constituted a high-level committee to revise the school curriculum of Social Sciences. This committee has recommended inclusion of epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in textbooks and writing the Preamble of the Constitution on classroom walls. Committee Chairman CI Issac has given information in this regard on Tuesday.

Committee Chairman CI Issac said that it is important to teach Ramayana and Mahabharata to children of classes 7 to 12. He said that the committee has laid emphasis on teaching epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in the social sciences syllabus.

The committee’s recommendation can now be considered by the 19-member National Curriculum and Teaching Material Committee (NSTC) notified in July to finalize the curriculum, textbooks and teaching materials for these classes. He further said that during adolescence, students build self-respect, patriotism and pride for their nation.

Issac said that every year thousands of students leave the country and seek citizenship in other countries because they lack patriotism. Therefore, it is important for them to understand their roots, develop love for their country and their culture. Let us tell you that the seven-member committee constituted last year has made several recommendations for its final position paper on social sciences, which is an important prescriptive document to lay the foundation for the development of new NCERT textbooks.

However, some education boards currently teach Ramayana to students, but they teach it as a myth. What is a myth? If students were not taught these epics, the education system would serve no purpose and would not be a service to the nation. Let us tell you that NCERT is revising the school curriculum in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The new NCERT textbooks are likely to be ready by the next academic session.
