The Sky Is Pink box office collection Day 1 prediction: Priyanka Chopra film to open at Rs 3 crore
While War continues to rake in money at the box office, even with Joker and Sye Ra Narasimha running parallel to it, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar's recently released film The Sky Is Pink has also joined in on the race. On its first day, Shonali Bose's directorial venture The Sky Is Pink is expected to have a decent opening, considering Priyanka Chopra's comeback in Bollywood after a gap of three years. She was last seen in Prakash Jha's Jai Gangaajal in 2016. The Sky Is Pink also marks the reunion of Priyanka and Farhan after Zoya Akhtar's 2015 film, Dil Dhadakne Do.
Comparing the earnings of Priyanka's last release Jai Gangaajal with Shonali Bose's film, The Sky Is Pink has witnessed a lesser opening-day collection till Friday afternoon, as reported by Box Office India. Jai Gangaajal had earned Rs 5.5 crore on its Day 1. The Sky Is Pink might better its performance in the evening.
The Sky Is Pink can bring in numbers thanks to the positive reviews it received from critics and word-of-mouth from the audience. According to early estimates, the Priyanka and Farhan-starrer will open at Rs 3 crore on Day 1, which is about Rs 2 crore less than that of Joker's, which collected Rs 5.15 crore on its release day, despite War in the competition.
However, going by the box office collections of Farhan's previous films - The Fakir Of Venice, Lucknow Central and Rock On 2, his The Sky Is Pink will give him better earnings this time.
The Sky Is Pink is narrated by actress Zaira Wasim. She is playing the role of Aisha Chaudhary, an ailing daughter of Aditi (Priyanka) and Niren (Farhan). And the fact that The Sky Is Pink is her last film before she quit Bollywood earlier this year, it is expected that her fans will throng to the theatres to watch her on the big screens. Zaira's performance in her first two films - Dangal and Secret Superstar - was also lauded by critics and fans alike.
The Sky Is Pink has been promoted as an emotional rollercoaster ride, focusing on the married couple's interpersonal relationship, as well as their relationship with their children. Naturally, this will have a niche audience and will mainly attract families. Considering the weekend, Priyanka and Farhan's film might be able to hold its ground, but the real test will be on Monday.
Meanwhile, War directed by Sidharth Anand, is inching towards the Rs 300-crore mark and has earned a total of Rs 238.35 crore including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu by Day 8. War has surpassed the lifetime business of Salman Khan's film Bharat.
It is already in the top position in the list of 2019 releases which had great openings at the box office. The list includes Bharat, Kabir Singh, Mission Mangal and Saaho.
Mainly because of the holiday season and Hrithik and Tiger's camaraderie, War has turned out to be the biggest opener of 2019 till date.
Now, it is to be seen how Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar's film The Sky Is Pink fares at the box office.
